The person behind Scrubbr
PhD in Applied Machine Learning · Data Scientist & Researcher
Hi, I’m Denis Ilie-Ablachim — I build and maintain Scrubbr.
I hold a PhD in applied machine learning from the National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest, where my research spanned sparse representations, anomaly detection, signal processing, and large language models — work recognised with Romania’s Best AI PhD Thesis award (BRAIT 2024). I’ve published across IEEE and ACL venues, and I also teach as a lecturer at Politehnica Bucharest.
Alongside research, I’ve worked as a data scientist at CrowdStrike and Riverbed Technology, and started out building security software at Bitdefender — so detecting meaningful signals in real-world data, and taking privacy seriously, is what I do.
Why I built Scrubbr
As machine-learning tools became part of everyday work, I kept seeing sensitive information — names, emails, account numbers — pasted into systems where it didn’t belong. I wanted a tool that strips it out before it ever leaves your machine: no accounts, no uploads, nothing to trust on someone else’s server.
So the detection models behind Scrubbr are built on the same machine-learning techniques I’ve spent years researching — and everything runs locally, on your device. That’s the whole point: useful privacy tooling that you don’t have to take on faith.
